You may find it helpful to go to a local gun store, and pick up a few, if you have not already. Maybe leave your cash and credit cards at home, to be sure you are just there to look and learn.

Also some ranges let you rent, or demo, guns. Some just charge one fee, and you can try as many as you want, as long as you buy thier ammo. You have stated a pretty broad range, of both price, and there is a big difference between 9 and 45.
